    Im tempted to pay off my active pre-orders from NY but knowing how fishy they can be with customers its best to owe them the money until the release of the figures in case they somehow forget that I paid them already or the info gets lost somehow.

    burokkori (4 vuotta sitten) #2359774The Yen's rapid slipping is mainly due to the "third arrow" by the relatively new Prime Minister. It's economic reform. Suppressing the currency to increase exportation.... which is kind of ironic for overseas figure collectors because they buy based on appeal and quality more so than the lower conversion rate.
    The rate will probably idle between 110 and 115 per the dollar for a while.
    2014 is a good year to import from the Land of the Rising Sun. 2012 was terrible and damaging to the wallet.

    Tell me about it. The USD/JPY rate when I paid for Motored Saber(ITEM #78585) in Summer 2012 was around 77/1. She cost me about 14,320 JPY which was about $184 at the time. If I spent that same amount in JPY today, it would have only come out to $130.

    Citizens take a large hit b/c many products are imported/manufactured abroad, and when your Yen is buying less, businesses to keep their profit margin healthy will usually spike up the prices. In the long-term depreciating the domestic currency will help with exports and a booming economy once more.

    shinhawk (4 vuotta sitten) #2359219I've got a friend who lives in Japan who has a teaching job and has US loans to pay off, so she dislikes it whenever I make any mention of USD strengthening against JPY.

    It's a good thing I don't have any loans/debt, most of the things I buy are in Japan anyway, and if I need to buy anything in USD I've got my U.S. credit card and plenty of money sitting in my American bank account to pay off said credit card. The whole exchange rate thing doesn't really impact me but it definitely catches my eye every year around April. ^^;

    I'm just kind of kicking myself for transferring funds I got from eBay sales from my U.S. PayPal account over to my Japanese one while the exchange rate was around 102. Could've probably gotten at least 5000 yen more if I transferred now. Though that doesn't hurt as much as the time I sold my BitCoins... I got about a $50 profit from it which I thought was nice, but then about a month or two later the value of BitCoins soared and if I had sold what I had at that time, I probably could've made a $700 profit instead. T___T I don't think I would be cut out for playing the stock market.

    shinhawk (4 vuotta sitten) #2358114Typically when JPY weakens against USD, GBP and EUR strengthen as well. As far as USD is concerned, I've compared Paypal's exchange rate to that of the rate the currency opens at when the US stock market opens. There is about a 2.75 difference so at a 100/1 exchange rate, it would 97.25 on Paypal. That's where Paypal gets their money for all of these transactions.
    American's started the whole "no foreign exchange fee" credit cards
    Apply for one, i.e from Chase and you'll get Visa's or MC's close to market rate on all of your purchases + the usualy credit card bonuses such as 1% cashback.

    Link it to your Paypal, set the conversion rate to your credit card rate and tada! 2.5-3.5% savings instantly

    I'm been paying close to market rate on all of my purchases over the last few years and I get 1% cash back as well, so for me, 1 USD=1.11 ^^

    The amount of savings is a lot less than it appears because figure prices overall are increasing. The exchange rate is excellent, but it helps less than it might otherwise seem. I have converted a large chunk of currency into JPY for convenience, however.
