Fairy Miku / Alphamax figure repaintFairy Miku / Alphamax figure repaintDiary

This is WIP and gallery of my recent project, recolor of Alphamax Miku figure.

The post is very, very picture heavy.

I always liked this figure of her for the cuteness of it but I'm not fan of that green/black/Halloween attire of hers. Just not my thing.

Luckily, I got a chance to make my own version of her!

After some thought I decided to turn my Miku into a cute little fairy standing right in front of the entrance to the enchanted flower garden.

I painted her using brushes and chalk pastels for shading/gradient. The hair was the hardest part because it needed a lot of prep work to keep it smooth and clear. Like, 16-18 hours of sanding alone.. But painting it with very thin mix of green-tinted clear varnish turned out to be very effective. It proves that you can work miracles with just your brushes, no need to get a rather expensive airbrush~

Painting the eyes is always the most interesting part. Very demanding, too. Some mistakes you can correct while some will lead you to repainting the whole piece.

The base turned out quite vibrant with all the shading but I wanted to add some extra flowery-ness to it. So I added a whole bunch of scrapbooking paper flowers to turn the little vignette into a garden. Assembly pics:

Time for a ton of pics showing off all the little details~

I am proud how my little fairy turned out. I'd love to see a scale Fairy Miku figure one day, SD is cute but proper sculpt is greater in detail :3

Hope you like her. Have a good day~

It was a rather private deal, not commercial ^^

For primer I use automotive spray primers for plastic parts, acrylic-based - these are waaaay cheaper than modeling brands like Tamiya and Mr.Hobby, and you get a lot for what you pay. One can is around 3-4 bucks. The white one is Motip brand but I guess you can get any primer that forms smooth surface and fills small imperfections like micro scratches (there are ones that need sanding before painting, so better ask a shop assistant). I also saw people use spray putty but I never saw such stuff locally.
The clear one is also some car primer, I just took a random one and it kind of works. But it doesn't really fill any imperfections, so clear parts required many hours of sanding and polishing before I could paint them.
Car shops are an immense source of cheap supplies :3

Thank you a lot for replying <3

M-Linfa4 vuotta sitten#7247381So this is a resin kit ? Also I wanted to ask you about the primer you used, for the transparent parts and the non transparent part, there are so many brands out there I don't know which one I should pick if I ever paint a kit again
Yeah, sort of :3

ponnie4 vuotta sitten#7247126Mine was already disassembled. But it's not really big of a deal to disassemble any figure. Some soaking in water and a bit of pressure here and there. I've never seen the manufacturers use epoxy glue that binds the parts completely.
Acetone removes the remaining glue and such. Sanding for additional smoothness. I won't risk it with delicate scale figures, though. The risk to break small parts is still quite high.

AnnieAzura4 vuotta sitten#7247186wait is the only thing you used to strip the paint acetone and sandpaper? what grain (grade? idk the term) sandpaper did you use?
You won't need anything else to strip the paint. Acetone is a universal paint remover, there is hardly any paint that it won't remove. Sandpaper varies on what you intend to do. 400-800 grits are for removing bumps and such. 1000-3000 grits and finer are made for polishing.
