TL is very useful when your order contains figures with big boxes. Of course you shouldn't use TL if your order is Sal Small Packed-able. As you know, Sal small packets are rarely retained by customs but that's not the case of Sal Parcels even with a lower price declarated.
If you see Sal Parcel shipping costs for a big figure (1/4 or so) it's common to pay between 3800 and 5000 JPY for shiping but, paying TL costs 2400 or so, but of course you'll pay taxes and they depends on the figure price, but for the most of the figure order you would pay 15-20 euros more than using Sal Parcel.
So, why to pay 15-20 euros in advance?
1. Your figure will arrive faster(even if it wouldn't have been retained by customs)
2. Forget about customs taxes, fees and postal service costs if a custom agent retain your packet(even with a low declarated price). If you selected Sal parcel and your packet got retained, prepare your wallet. Selecting TL will always be cheaper than a figure + Sal parcel Shipping + taxes + fees + postal services costs.
3 Forget about showing invoices, pay customs in a bank, bla bla bla... time that requires 3 more weeks at last (here in spain) of your time.
So I prefer to pay 15-20 euros more but having the certain that I will avoid customs (time and money)

Hey there, thanks for your reply! I had ordered a nendo of them and didn't use trans-logic, it went through customs, arrived.... and I didn't have to pay custom because NY lowered the price of the item low enough to slip through customs! So... what is the point of TL if they lower the price of the item...? Need to check how much their VAT is compared to my customs to see if it's worth purchasing items through them or just use other webshops / use them w Reg Sal.
That said I did use their TL twice before and it went smoothly with no customs thrown at it so I'm still not 100% convinced.

Welp, I wanted to give this shipping option a try... This blogpost arrived just in time for me.
Hi guys.
Better late than never :S
After submit some tickets to NY customer service and never had a satisfying answer I gave up and paid my order.
Today I ordered
ITEM #457123
and used transit-logic as well. I take a look at the numbers and I see that in Spanish site version (my native language) they state that the VAT are excluded from the shipping costs, but in English, they state that are incluided. That was the main confusion.
Also, they change this a while ago, because some months ago, they never charged VAT for shipping. Surely they noticed that and began to do so.
In conclusion. Some Japanese are extremely proud and can't recognize a mistake (even a past one), however; based on my country laws the shippings must to be VAT charged so I think is fair for all of us.
Regards

I don't know, man, I checked my order history of the past 4 years and all the VAT amount has been calculated identically. Maybe spain had some VAT regulations in the past few years or maybe Nippon-Yasan has messed something up. Please let us know when you get a response from them.
First, I must say thanks for take your time and check your previous orders. The last bunch of questions were rethorical, and would be answered by NY at his time; however, thaks for taking your time.
Talking about VAT here in Spain... The last VAT variation applied by the goverment here in Spain was more or less 3 years ago, and because of that I assumed that they had messed and now are tring to fix it making a new method of calculation.
In general, here in Spain the VAT is calculated in this way:
1. For package valued on 22 euros or less.
No VAT apply.
2. For 150>package value>22
VAT = 0.21* (item value+shipping)
3. For package value on 150 or more.
VAT = 0.21* [1.03* (item value) + shipping]
The above would different if the article have a special treatment, but for this matter, is perfectly applicable.
The reason of this article is to pointing out this incongruty and to tell everybody the rules that they apply, even when they are not published in their terms and conditions.
Once said that, I must say that NY is my prefered store by far and that I truly believe that worth pay taxes.
And of course, I will update you all about what they'll answer.

First I thought so, but then, why did they answer that they apply a 20%?
The default VAT rate/standard rate is 20%

Why they say that the shipping has it's tax incluided? ( as you can see in the order summary)
I think what they mean is sales tax is included in shipping, not VAT.

And, if now they include the shipping in taxes calculation, why isn't declarated in their terms and conditions?
I can't speak for spain, but in germany the import VAT is calculated by the total item value (shipping costs always included!), so that's not their problem, I guess?

All the data shown in the previous table are calculated in the same way. If they change the rules, at leat I expect a statement about this because what you say, only applies for the last 3 orders.

I don't see any mistakes in the calculations. Vat in spain is 21%, so: VAT=[(item+shipping)x21]/100

I don't see any deviations in the calculations from nippon-yasan's side.
VAT in spain is AFAIK 21%, so:
VAT=[(item+shipping)x21]/100
You cannot exclude the shipping cost in your VAT calculations.

Seriously? When I get charged customs (use SAL) the tracking shows it takes no more than a day extra to reach me (as opposed to not getting charged)
I haven't ordered that much from outside of Europe, but the few times I did and was charged with customs, one took about a week to get out of customs, while the other was done within a day (which made me think I wouldn't get charged, however I ended up having to pay), so I don't think tracking is a reliable indication of whether or not they're gonna check your package, unfortunately.

I'd probably use it if there really was no option of specifying the amount myself. Even then, there are forwarders that have this option.
The declared amount doesn't have to be reasonable at all, but not all shops are willing to do it. Lot of orders have arrived here (Netherlands) without being checked. The consolidated ones even have the bills with real value are in the box.
I don't want to pay tax here on items that can't be bought here.
