How will bug spray affect figures? How will bug spray affect figures?Ask MFC

I know you have probably read the title of this blog post and are probably thinking, what the heck?

Well, here's what happened: A few minutes ago I was sitting on my bed minding my own business when all of a sudden an enormous bug started chasing after me. Call me a scaredy cat but I have a phobia of bugs. I then ran and screamed at a relative to come and get rid of it.

Thats were things went downhill. Of course the bug decided to land right on top of one of my favourite character's figurines and my poor Hanayo figure was caught in the bug spray cross-fire and was drenched in the process.

Poor Hanayo... :(

Has this ever happened to anyone else? And if so, does anyone know what affect it has on figures or how I should go about cleaning it? I really hope her paint doesn't get ruined (thankfully she is a less expensive figure but I really hope I don't have to buy another) ;~; Any help is appreciated...

***Just to clarify I wasn't the one to spray it, it was a relative of mine who didn't know the importance of being careful with figures and I was mortified after I learnt about what happened. ><

I'm buying a display cabinet tomorrow -.-

MC7073 vuotta sitten#22319937I used to have a pair of sunglasses with a mirror coating. At the end of a hot, bug heavy summer day, I noticed the mirror coating ran down in a very messy pattern, completely and permanently ruining the sunglasses. The bug spray was the culprit, of course. I don't know what the bug spray had apart from the famous deet, but it's definitely not gonna help a plastic figure with coats of fine paint.
Definitely keep chemicals away from figures, even with my hate of bugs (specifically cockroaches, mosquitoes, and giant black butterflies witch moths) I would just wait it out until the invader left the area.

Awww sorry to hear about your sunglasses >< I agree that the deet stuff is really strong. I also agree with keeping chemicals away from figures, I'll definitely have to remind the person who sprayed the bug to wait until it moves away from the figures next time ^^

Vodkanroll3 vuotta sitten#22322216In that case, I would use water to wash out any trace of the spray. At least a minute or so under a water stream. I think that cold water would be better than warm (in order to minimize any chemical reaction).
In any case, please share what did you do and if your figure got any damage.
Good luck!

Thanks for the helpful advice! I ended up just washing it in cold water shortly after I posted the article and it seems to be alright so far. I didn't know cold water worked to minimise chemical reactions! ^^ I'll keep that in mind for future reference, and thanks for sharing! :)

belenaza3 vuotta sitten#22332857A few years ago I moved with my grandma, and the first week she told me that she used bug spray in my books shelves (where I also display my figures) just for caution. I almost had a heart attack and asked her not to do it anymore. Luckily, I didn't notice damage on the figures, only in the wood of the shelf. And in that case I can only recommend water.

Same, I also had a heart attack when I found out too! 0.0 I'm glad your figures were unhurt in the process, I also got lucky as mine seems to be fine after I washed her. ^^

Thankfully I wasn't the one to spray her (I would never forgive myself haha) >< Also, that's a pretty good idea though, I better turn my room into a greenhouse to keep away these pesky bugs! :)
