Hey, fellow mfc-members and welcome
to another review! :3

This post will be picture-heavy (you know how it goes by now ^^“)
and maybe mildly NSFW, cuz of the revealing outfit.

It took me a bit longer to get her than others (thank you dear customs officers...), but today I can finally have a look at part II of Type-Moon's Racing set (well one of them...), the beautiful Racing Rin brought to us by Stronger. After getting Saber (you can find my review of her here: BLOG #39334) I obviously had to get Rin, especially since she looked very promising (and I like her quite a bit more as a character), but instead of blabbing on I'd rather get on with the review so I'll do just that.^^

Well, looking at the box it's immediately visible that they messed up Rin's last name, which is spelled 'Tohsaka' and not 'Tohska' (do I sense a little discrimination here? X3). However there's not really anything that can be done about it, so let's start for real now.
Similar to Saber's box, Rin's has a large window on the front (also one on top) and diagonal cut-outs emphasizing the racing theme. Rin's box of course has red stripes (in varying shades) fitting her color-theme, while the base color is again white. All sides are adorned with different pictures of the figure. Due to Rin's sitting pose the box has a horizontal format, but opens at the side(s), which just felt really weird to me (as opposed to most 'normal' figure boxes), but I guess it makes sense.

The blister as usual isn't anything special, but does it's protective job for all the figure's parts.

Taking everything out of the box we get 5 parts: Figure, base, exchangeable arm and her 2 'flags'.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1529782922.jpeg
Assembly is fairly easy, but I had to check the part with the 'flags' multiple times on the instruction sheet,I'll elaborate why later though.^^“

Looking at the base it's again part of a whole, a very big one this time, granted that's because Rin is in a sitting position and it needed to fit her properly. The gold and black paint of the partial racing-logo look very neat (again) and I couldn't detect any paint flaws, which is another plus. I was surprised to see that the figure only gets attached to one (plastic-)peg though. Seeing how they probably wanted to make sure her display angle can be adjusted it does make seem reasonable (I guess).

Now for the (first) overview...
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1529782938.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1529782944.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1529782949.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1529782956.jpeg

Rin's face looks really pretty, I especially love her shaded eyes and the overall happy expression. I could argue that her mouth can seem a little awkward if you look really closely, maybe because the outer corners are curled down a bit, but you'd usually not look that close.
The fringe of her hair looks pretty on point, the shading in particular and while the sculpting isn't all too detailed it fits her usual visuals. For me personally it's actually more important for the sculpting to be 'clean', which it is.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1529782962.jpeg

The rest of her hair isn't as perfect (some smaller, excess plastic bumps here and there), though the shading is overall great. Differing hair strands and structure are on-point too, only the glued-on looking strand at the back and on her fringe (let's call it an ahoge), don't seem all that great with their obvious seams. I've seen those kinds of things on numerous figures so far and I'm not really sure if it's some sort of necessary step in the production or the manufacturer's being sloppy anymore. Speaking of seams the one between her fringe and the rest of her hair don't really bother me, some might say it's a tad too visible though (no unclean borders at least).
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1529782983.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1529782988.jpeg
Her black ribbons are painted in a shiny black, which fits her outfit.

Next up is Rin's lacquer (or maybe faux leather?) jacket. It looks very shiny and thin with the creases and the way it clings to Rin's skin (particular on her back). Again the shading looks very good and on-point, lines on the jacket suggest seams, but aren't overdone and the seams for her arms are 'hidden' quite well too. The only complaint I have is the somewhat scruffy black paint on her cuffs (I remember Saber having the same problem). Rin's sleeve also features the gold and black racing logo, which is a nice addition.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1529782994.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1529782999.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1529783007.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1529783014.jpeg
Some user's complained about the jacket (the glossy paint part) having defects, 'imprints' if I'm not mistaken near her shoulder, which mine (luckily) doesn't have). Those complaints have been few and most people don't seem to have such problems, but it still sucks for those who received her that way. :/

Rin's hands are beautifully sculpted and look very feminine, I really love the subtle but prettily painted fingernails. Even her wristband is nice, albeit quite on the simple site.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1529783019.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1529783025.jpeg
Another complaint some user's voiced is that her hands kind of float in the air not really touching the base (just like her butt). Well, the palm of mine does touch the base, but overall the hands never completely fit, since a small part will always reach over the rims of the base. Even if you rotate her with one hand completely on the base though, the fingers never really touch it, which is certainly good to avoid paint transfers, but it does look a teeny tiny bit unnatural imo. All in all I don't have the 'floaty' problem though (not with her butt either).

Going to her top it looks a bit thicker fabric-wise than the jacket, especially considering how rounded her chest looks. The top features a red and black color-scheme. Lines between the red and black parts suggest seams and there's also one just between her breast, enforcing the pre-formed top impression. No paint flaws here, not even the buttons, though the light-reflections make it looks otherwise.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1529783032.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1529783037.jpeg
As you can see Rin also fills her top better than Saber (no padding visible here). X3

Further down we can see Rin's gorgeous belly and back, also nicely shaded and sculpted, her belly in particular looks quite lifelike (not overly muscular either).
Her shorts and belt look overall pretty good too. Perfectly shiny and nicely modelled (creases, buckle and seams), only the parts holding the belt seem scruffy, the paint being almost blotchy in places.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1529783046.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1529783052.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1529783056.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1529783067.jpeg
Bonus pic of her bum, because it's such a nice one and I wanted to show it to you. x3

Now we get to see some magnificient long legs and the over-knee boots make them look extra sexy (imo anyway). Just like the rest of her outfit they are extra glossy. A zipper runs along the front (just like Saber's there's no fastener...) and there's a silver toecap with a seam (?) in the middle. I guess this was intentional, though I can't imagine why. The boots as a whole look really, really good, the shading especially, but also the folds.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1529783074.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1529783079.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1529783086.jpeg
Another unnecessary angle. x3

Alright now, let's 'attach' Rin's flags/blades (you'll catch my drift soon) and do another overview of it...
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1529783095.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1529783102.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1529783112.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1529783122.jpeg

As for the close-ups...
Well I can imagine a few reasons why, but it bothers me to no end that the flags, whose hilts resemble the hilts (and more) of a certain Archer's blades quite A LOT, are just loosely lying/resting in Rin's hands and on the base. I even checked the instruction sheet as well as the promo pictures (and others for that matter) tons of times, just to make sure I did nothing wrong there...
Sure the figure is flexible in terms of positioning, since you can just rotate her around the peg, but I do change my displays frequently and I'd certainly forget the flags not being safely attached. That would at some point result in them falling down (and probably breaking), so yeah... that's that.
Otherwise they look fairly neat with the silvery/golden finish, apart from a few places where the gold paint wasn't applied cleanly (on the hilts mostly).
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1529783128.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1529783135.jpeg

Another thing bothering me is that the bases can't really be attached to each other (and for this I don't have an explanation, if anyone does, please feel free to enlighten me).
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1529783141.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1529783148.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1529783155.jpeg
Saber and Rin (what we have so far) do look quite good together though (they certainly fit size-wise too) and at this point I'm quite excited to finally complete the set (even with Nero not being among favorite Fate-characters).

Lastly for some size-comparisons...
You might wonder why I did it in this particular case, but even with Rin being part of a set you could still just display her alone (or with other figures). Since she is sitting she doesn't need the base either (though I still used it for the pictures).
Let's check how she fares with other 1/7 figures first.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1529783160.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1529783165.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1529783172.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1529783179.jpeg
(Racing) Rin seems to be a fairly average sized 1/7 figure, which makes her look good with bigger one's (like Nero) or slightly smaller one's (like the other Rin). Even Jibril, who also assumes a sitting position doesn't look out of place, though her face seems quite big.

In fact with 1/8 figures Rin doesn't look all that out of place either, which can certainly be attributed to her sitting position creating more 'depth' in the display (smaller figures look farther away and not only 'weird').
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1529783185.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1529783194.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1529783199.jpeg
Well, that can only be said for standing 1/8 figures though, a sitting one will still look smaller without creating a sort of optical illusion.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Conclusion
Just like Saber this figure of Rin is gorgeous. There are quite a few more things I complained about, but most were apparently conscious decisions by the maker you can either like or not and I won't let that influence my rating (can't help mentioning it though, that's just how I am after all...). The few 'real' flaws are fairly neglectable imo. Apart from the typo on the box, which is just sad (hence the bad rating).
Rin herself looks really cute and sexy (not to forget happy) and I'm quite happy I got her, since she just makes me smile when I look at her.
As I said I'm also quite excited to complete the set (hopefully soon, but I expect another delay for ITEM #595821) and I'd like to review Nero too, if no one beats me to it.^^
That's it for this review! Thanks for reading! ^^
Since I strive to improve my reviews and writing
I'd be really happy about some constructive criticism. :3
Of course any thoughts on the figure are very welcome too!^^
Okeno (1 vuotta sitten) #36332625Ohh.. I does look quite nice without the base. Thanks for the pic! Have to think fast, I suppose!
You're welcome. :3
Yeah, well, I'd still suggest sleeping a night or two on it, justto make sure you're not only pressured because of the aftermarket and to affirm that you really want her. I know the regret after impulse purchases all too well. ^^"
broken-Toybox (1 vuotta sitten) #36313513Oh, I know that feel I got quite a few figures because of their reviews by now (thanks to all the other reviewers that made my self-discipline crumble! x3). I'm also quite happy that I was able to tempt you (thanks! :3).
If you want to explore the uncharted lands of scale figures, let me assure you that she looks very good w/o the base too (and isn't too wobbly for that matter).^^
The only thing that might work against you is her availability and price as of now, Her pride has already risen a fair bit in just a month, which was a a surprise to me (I know it went like that for Saber too, but so fast and so much?).
Okeno (1 vuotta sitten) #36297892Nice review. Almost makes me tempted to get it. When I first saw pics of this scale, I thought it looked gorgeous. So nice for my fav character. It almost made me break into the scale arena for the first time. I briefly had it in a cart at a web store even.
Your pics and review have me tempted again! The fact that it could be used alone without the stand (I have no interest in Blue Saber and even less in Nero) also makes me tempted. Maybe I'll break down. But either way, thanks for sharing!
victorviper (1 vuotta sitten) #36292919Interesting review.
I always liked Rin's character design the best of all the F/SN gang, and the shiny black and red outfit looks so good on her. And those zippered thighhighs!
It seems like we're seeing more of these multi-part bases these days. It's kind of a neat feature, but it would also be nice to have the option of a "stand alone" base as well.
Thanks! :3
I can't really say the same (maybe for the girls though). x3 The outfit sure looks great on her, it fits nicely with her dark hair and light skin, I also love the thighhighs in particular (they're just.... hnnnngh).
I noticed that too, which is probably good if you like collecting sets. I agree about optional stand alone bases though (not everyone likes every character from a given set). It's not that bad in this particular case since Rin is sitting anyway, but Saber (and Nero too, I'd bet) for example can't stand w/o the base. Well, companies not doing that is part of the business model I suppose ('well, tht figure looks weird alone, better get the whole set').
PanchitoMatte (1 vuotta sitten) #36289042I'm fairly confident that the reason for this is because each of the figures couldn't be justifiably displayed separately without appearing as though something was missing. GSC, likewise, did an excellent job at merging the two bases of their 1/7 scales Rem and Ram while avoiding a locking mechanism that would attach the two figures. If either GSC or Stronger chose to create some method of connecting the bases, this aspect would be visible if you didn't own a complete set.
I get your point and ofc that makes sense.
They could just have made some sort of clasp to attach under the bases though, which would be fairly invisible from any reasonable displaying angle.
I also think GSC's Rem und Ram are still a bit different, if you separate them they won't look like a part is missing since the cobbles base is fairly inconspicuous and doesn't suggest a set.
Not that this discussion makes much sense in any case (the deed is done after all).^^
PanchitoMatte (1 vuotta sitten) #36289042I believe one should choose to review something irrespective of whether others have also reviewed it. I'm sure those who are familiar with your reviews would be happy to read your take on something, regardless.
That said, fabulous photography. Thank you for sharing. I also own Tohsaka Rin, and wholeheartedly agree with what you've written.
Thank you! :3
That too makes sense, but it's sort of a motivational problem for me mostly. I'm not keen on repeating what others have said which would inevitably happen (at least to some degree) and that ofc makes me less willing to make an effort (it's really time comsuming after all.
