Anyone else just about had it with mail carrier incompetency?Anyone else just about had it with mail carrier incompetency?

(USPS rant ahead, but I'm sure people in other countries around the world have their share of issues with their postal services!)

I have had nothing but issues with my local post office lately. I went on vacation and put my mail on hold starting last Thursday and ending this Monday. On Friday afternoon, I was enjoying my day at the beach when I looked through my tracking numbers and discovered that ITEM #604381 (shipped from TOM) was delivered to my house! Despite the fact that I went into the post office the week before and filled out the "hold mail" form for the aforementioned days.

The package sat overnight and was luckily still there the next day when the person taking care of my pets came over and brought it in. I live in the city, so I'm not sure how none of my packages have been stolen yet that sat out overnight, but it may have to do with the fact that my front door camera is large and quite visible. Other people in my neighborhood have reported having packages stolen before which is why it's a concern of mine.

Today, though, was the last straw, I really feel like complaining to someone, but I doubt anyone at USPS cares.

My April order from AmiAmi was pretty large and was forced EMS. It contained ITEM #729565, ITEM #768379, and ITEM #675637. Today I woke up and discovered it went out for delivery this morning. Unfortunately, I was busy today, and was out most of the day for appointments and other errands. I figured they would just leave me a pink slip like usual and I would go pick it up tomorrow.

However, I was very wrong... Approximately 15 minutes before I arrived home (I was driving in my car), my phone received a notification from my front door camera app (Kuna). When I got home, I opened the app and saw that someone had delivered my package.

I discovered that not only had they left the package sitting on my doorstep, but to my dismay, when I checked the tracking, they stated the package had been signed for and it stated my name. I was absolutely not home to sign for the package, so I guess the carrier must have forged the signature and then typed in my name? The videos taken on my door camera show them putting down the package, scanning a pink slip, then leaving the package and taking the slip with them as they walk away.

I'm not sure if I should report this to someone at USPS (like they care...) or just be silently angry. But this package was worth 37,700 yen and would I potentially be screwed out of that if the package was stolen yet the tracking information claims I signed for it? This is the first time a mail carrier has straight up forged my signature.

Maybe I should just bite the bullet and get another PO Box so my expensive packages aren't always being left out in front of my house despite my best efforts? I don't know...

Report the shit out of that, especially since you have video evidence

Forgery of a signature is a crime. You have video evidence so report it to the police?

Thought I'd post an update, I didn't expect to get so many responses to this blog:

I went to the post office yesterday afternoon and spoke to the supervisor - they watched the video and stated they would speak to that carrier.

I'm still not 100% encouraged that the issue will be fixed, as I've seen multiple carriers still drop registered packages off at my house without a signature (they simply don't scan the delivery and the tracking remains at "out for delivery" indefinitely). So I will probably still get a PO box in the near future.

Well, I know I would win an insurance claim on a package if they never scanned the final delivery, but I definitely don't want to take my chances losing a rare figure or a figure I pre-ordered that became extremely rare and expensive in the aftermarket.

Not to mention insurance claims take forever and are extremely annnoying (I've currently been in one with Solaris Japan for over 2 months now as they try to get compensation from JP Post for a damaged figure, and I'm still waiting for my refund... T.T)

Happens to me quite often. When I ordered my Switch they literally just left it on the front steps, no knock or doorbell in broad daylight. Also happened when I ordered my polystone statue, they just put this massive 500$ statue box on the steps at night and left. Just lucky I heard the truck and came down right after instead of letting it sit all night. One of the most prominent problems is them not delivering at all (didn't carry the package with them) but still leave a missed notice on your door; Among other problems.

I just have to chime in to say that I had the exact same experience with the postal service signing for me while I was away. To make matters worse, the tracking showed delivery in the wrong zip code! So after going through all the headache of trying to report a stolen package by phone, I return home two days later to find it at my doorstep. I avoid them whenever I can.

Ryandh (24 päivää sitten) #57802630You should definitely contact the postmaster for your local post office and possibly someone on the national level (don't know who or what that would be tho). This is a blatant crime as forging a person's signature is a felony. You could likely press charges against your Post man, (personally, I would be calling my local police office as soon as I hung up with the postmaster if I was unsatisfied). Not only are they screwing over you, they are screwing over the Japanese Post office, who is technically one of the customers for EMS deliveries. Definitely don't stay silent, as this just encourages more postal employees to slack on their job
FYI, you should be reporting this to US postal investigators, which is the branch of the post office that deals with all postal crime. And this is a crime that should most definitely be punished. Considering you have video, you really should punish this guy, it's his fault for committing a felony just to be lazy

In the UK, Parcelforce have screwed me over so many times. The problem here is that they say they'll arrive some time in the afternoon, so I wait home anxiously and then they never turn up. And the next thing I know, I get a notification saying they tried but no one was home. >:(
And to top it off, they don't leave a slip telling me to pick up the parcel, so I just have to assume they couldn't fit me in their schedule like they'd said they would. And this repeats for maybe 3 days of uncertainty.

I'm in the UK, so you're right in that it's a worldwide thing.
Repeatedly, when I have bought figures, I have had them turn up in incredibly battered boxes. Not just the box it was shipped in, but the box the figure is inside of. Luckily, boxes don't matter too much to me (they're basically like a bonus to me) and the figures themselves are always unharmed (somehow) so I'm not too upset but I can imagine how much it would hurt to people who do care about the boxes.
It's gotten to the point where, whenever I get a notification that I have a package I need to pay import tax for, I will actually make the trip down to where it's being held to pay in person and pick it up there rather than paying online and having it delivered. Whenever I've done this, it's been immaculate, so at least I know the damage is being done within the UK, not the trip from Japan to the UK.
Also, not so figure related but definitely postal related rant below, for basically what was the final straw for me.
View spoilerHide spoilerTo give you an idea of how much my postal service doesn't care, when I received my certificate stating that I completed my college course and what grade I got, the envelope said, in big, bright red letters, "IMPORTANT" and "DO NOT BEND". The college even put cardboard inside to make sure it wouldn't get bent accidentally. You guessed it, the postman not only bent the envelope but roughly shoved it in my mail slot and left it, bent in half, stuck in the mail slot. Didn't even push it through properly.
EDIT: As an afterthought, decided to show the most recent example of heavily damaged box. (Again, figure is fine.) The damage to the box is even worse than it appears in this photo, and when it was shipped, the box was immaculate. (Bought this figure from a UK seller, hence no import tax therefore no picking this one up.)

My favorite part is when it goes out of state for an in-state delivery.

I deal with this BS near Seattle too. I had a similar situation where the carrier signed off on both me and my sister's figures that came at the same time. Whenever I'm home, they either leave figures on the porch without ringing the doorbell or they put a failed delivery slip, again, without ringing the doorbell.

At least the lady at the USPS post office here is genuinely nice, it dulls the pain of having to make a 40 minute trip to pick up a package due to their driver's laziness.
