REVIEW: Aniplex Kasumigaoka Utaha Kimono Ver.
https://i.postimg.cc/44L6SVWV/fbdy5s.jpg

Warning: Picture-heavy review oncoming.
First off, I bought this figure without knowing what character Kasumigaoka Utaha is, or what the series Saekano is about - and I probably won't find out (*dodges any form of rubbish thrown my way*). I initially saw images of the figure on this site - and immediately deemed her as a must-have.

She is the second figure I have bought without prior knowledge of the character or the illustration image - and simply because I adore the aesthetics of the figure itself (the first being Myethos's Queen Of Hearts) - which says a lot about figures like these, because they would have to really stand out for me to make the purchase without feeling any familiarity for the character.

I have always desired a kimono figure collection (at least one display panel XD) ever since I started branching out into other non-One Piece figures a few months ago. And I thought this would be one of the perfect figures for it.

Before I decided to purchase her, I did some online research and it appeared that buyers were divided over their verdict of this figure - the pegs did not fit, there were problems with the umbrella accessory, horrible paint job. It sounded terrible, to say the least. And yet, this figure had visually appealed to me so much so that I overlooked the negative reviews, crossed my fingers, put her on my wishlist, and finally purchased her when she came up for a good price.

This is my first 1/7 scale figure and also my first Aniplex figure, and I was so excited when she came in the mail.

THE BOX: 9/10
https://i.postimg.cc/44L6SVWV/fbdy5s.jpg

The box is very pretty and dainty in design, with a predominant red-orange floral scheme. The front of the box has a large rounded window showing the figure, and the window is framed by shoji doors on both sides. I like it, the design makes it seem as if the doors have just opened and we are seeing Utaha decked out in her kimono.
The back of the box is far plainer with a lot of text and two small images of the figure.

The sides of the box are also really pretty. They have no windows but instead a large image of the illustration and the figure, respectively.

The inner background of the box is the same red-orange shade with flowers.

THE PACKAGING: 10/10
https://i.postimg.cc/44L6SVWV/fbdy5s.jpg

The packaging is very secure when I first took it out, the plastic pegs were really tight - which of course made it a pain to open them. The packaging came in three plastic shells all attached to one another - the first two held the figure and the umbrella accessory and the lowest third one holds the base.

I appreciate that the inlet holding the base was secured with 'security bumps' which makes it virtually impossible to fall out - there have been packaging of figures I have received in the past where the base just falls out easily - I have experienced this with Kotobukiya and Megahouse.

THE BASE: 9/10
https://i.postimg.cc/44L6SVWV/fbdy5s.jpg

The base is definitely very pretty - it is round and the red-orange colours give an autumn feel to it. There are two metal pegs in the middle of the base for Utaha's foot - and three peg inlets for her kimono. I did not encounter the problems mentioned by certain buyers - the pegs on the base coordinate perfectly with each other.

https://i.postimg.cc/3RQSWpsd/677dsp.jpg

This base definitely takes up significant space - being large and rounded and would definitely limit display space. I understand the large diameter may be needed for her kimono skirt flaring behind her, though it pretty much takes up useless space in front of her. Thankfully, the figure is able to stand on its own.

THE SCULPT: 8/10
THE PAINT: 9/10
https://i.postimg.cc/44L6SVWV/fbdy5s.jpg

And this right here is Utaha herself, looking absolutely gorgeous in her multicoloured kimono. I love her general colour scheme - the purple kimono and gold obi with multicoloured flowers and lines - the colours are everywhere but they somehow work nicely together. And as I have mentioned earlier - she stands perfectly well on her own.

https://i.postimg.cc/mg0V6C28/2j0h2mp.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/6Qnzsq8w/1z3ysly.jpg

I don't know the character Utaha but I do like her face sculpt - her eyes are painted nicely and her cheeks are painted with a cute subtle blush on them.

https://i.postimg.cc/FzsxJxDs/20ru3i0.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/B63pJ3FF/28u75gg.jpg

Her hair is sculpted well too and definitely one of the highlights given the many accessories in them. Her hair strands are wavy and there's a small parting at the back where the umbrella accessory is to go through (more on this later). The hair pieces are sculpted nicely and very pretty - the soft gold goes well with the purple of her dress. I especially adore the red flower with the hanging silver tassels.

https://i.postimg.cc/HsrwDnNK/w8ougj.jpg

Her hair is not without its faults. There's a significant seam line over the midline parting of her hair which is obvious from the top and the front - it seems like they took two sides of her front hair over the hairband and glued them right in the middle. The job wasn't very even in my figure and not very nice to see.
Her cleavage is nicely sculpted - not too lewd and just sexy enough.

https://i.postimg.cc/FHJVczgc/205qp7m.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/nz1kzWKP/2u70gg3.jpg

There's also a sculpt imperfection over the PVC on the left side of her hair, just below the hair ornament.
https://i.postimg.cc/bwb1rMp9/2efl63p.jpg

Her kimono is very lovely, the shade is purple and very nice and doesn't clash with the pink-and-white flowers. The kimono folds are done nicely too.

https://i.postimg.cc/SQDdbwxX/2wnokdc.jpg

Her clog fit very snugly on the base peg without problem.
https://i.postimg.cc/7L31sRRZ/zwcbic.jpg

The one accessory that Utaha comes with is her traditional umbrella and it is very detailed especially the ribs of the umbrella. The umbrella is a single piece with no detachable parts and Utaha is to hold the umbrella in her left hand.

https://i.postimg.cc/kgVfcf92/akg0h1.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/hvppCYfd/2l9tj4n.jpg

There were no problems getting the umbrella into its supposed position. There's an obvious parting just at the left of the midline of her hair and you have to insert the end of the umbrella through it and out the other side. I faced no difficulty, but do be careful so you don't damage any of her hair strands in the process.
The umbrella will rest over Utaha's left shoulder, and the metal end is to go through Utaha's left hand. Pretty simple.

THE POSE: 10/10
https://i.postimg.cc/44L6SVWV/fbdy5s.jpg

And this is how she looks as a complete figure. The pose is fantastic, very lady-like and elegant.
https://i.postimg.cc/Bb6xvnnj/2v92azq.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/sDbpVyd2/23w3d43.jpg

Still getting lovely views from multiple angles.

https://i.postimg.cc/jj0QhTZ1/faodgo.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/hjMLgdcF/xlcwfp.jpg

The pegs from the kimono and the one to her foot line up perfectly. And these are the photos I just took of the pegs all fitting nicely into their slots! :D

https://i.postimg.cc/vZW6bVtP/2cmrh4g.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/qM63DYhH/2mo166f.jpg

There was a single paint scrape over the gold obi ribbon on her right, her left is fine. It's a bit of a bummer as the scrape is located right over her front, even though the multi-coloured design of the ribbon pretty much makes it appear not so obvious.

Extra photos of the figure.

FINAL THOUGHTS
https://i.postimg.cc/44L6SVWV/fbdy5s.jpg

So did I regret getting this figure, and was it worth it? No, I absolutely did not regret getting her - she is a very beautiful figure, absolutely visually pleasing.

I got her pre-owned (the box flaps appear brand new and not to have been opened at all, I actually thought I got a mint figure XD), so the lower price might have increased my tolerance to the figure's imperfections.

It is also my first time getting a 1/7 scale figure, so I may be more than usually impressed with the weight (I love heavy figures) and the size proportion. XD

The question whether it was worth it or not pretty much depends on the individual collector. For me, it was - at the price I paid for her. I love her design and colour very much - I think there's a lot of details going on with this figure eg. her hair, umbrella, clothes. If this figure had been plainer, I might have had issues with her imperfections.

I have read figure reviews of some seasoned collectors and they really scrutinize the details down to the tiniest pain scrape. I am not that particular - I just look at the overall figure and design, the general paint job, corners here and there and I am done and happy.

The sculpt and paint problems are numbering several and un-easy on the eyes, but some of them are not ovbious and can be overlooked. I am not yet familiar with Aniplex (this is my first figure by them) but have always heard that Aniplex are one of better figure manufacturers, so this may be a slightly subpar figure by them (I never get problems like these with my Megahouse figures).

So it really boils down to the individual, if you feel this figure is worth the money or not. For me, personally it is. I adore the beautiful design and colours of this figure very much, and am a fan of kimono figures - therefore the mistakes do not detract me from enjoying this figure.

I would rate her a personal 9.0 out of 10.

PROS
- Very beautiful and eye-catching kimono design
- Wonderful colour scheme
- Pretty base
- Carries the 'Limited, Exclusive release' label - if it matters to you

CONS
- Paint problems (may range between individual figures)
- Sculpt imperfections (may range between individual figures)
- Large base size may take up display space

Naut1 vuotta sitten#60496942Thanks for the detailed review. I'm glad you're happy with her. Shes on my wishlist but I'm not sure if I want to go through with it. I had the idea of creating a kimono shelf also because I have Hanagaraimono Miku but decided against it because I was planning to get Alters Lingerie Set for the Saekano Trios.
Are you planning to get the other 2 girls kimono figures to complete that set?

Thanks for the comment! Yes, I am planning to get the other two girls in the set - but I'm waiting for a good price (also, I reached my limit for figure purchases this month XD) The Miku figure you mentioned is also on my wishlist ;)

The swimsuit figures are really nice too. I really liked this one ITEM #549367

ChibiSaturn1 vuotta sitten#60434030This figure is gorgeous, as are quite a few from the show (the problem), but I have to say you aren't missing out by not seeing the show. I pushed through the first season and it just never grew on me at all so I didn't even bother with the second season.
I do really love some of the figures though, this one is especially beautiful. I really like Megumi's design and a lot of her figures are too cute.

I agree, the series' characters have a lot of gorgeous figures! I saw a swimsuit figure of Utaha ITEM #549397, if I ever decided to start a beach collection, this will be tops on my list.

PanchitoMatte1 vuotta sitten#60429477Well, that's a mistake that needs correcting! Utaha-senpai is a great character. I see that this is your first Saekano figure, so I'll just say that you're really missing out by not watching the show's two seasons.
Regarding the review, I must express a big thank you for introducing me to the idea that I could stand her without the base. It is quite large and a pain to structure any reasonable layout alongside my other figures. Now, I think I'll try displaying the trioMegumi Eriri UtahaITEM #347656, ITEM #347655, & ITEM #347654 without their bases instead!

Thanks for the comments! :) I may try the series someday, but from what I can see from the posters and photos, it doesn't really seem like the type of anime series I am into. But you never know in the future... XD

Yes, her base really takes up a lot of space - almost 1/3 of a Detolf display panel. I currently have her displayed on her base with just one other figure, but when I get new ones, she will need to lose the base.

This was a really good review. I think the score you gave her was fair.

Thanks a lot! I agree, there's just something breathtaking about beautiful traditional kimono figures :) I couldn't dislike her despite the flaws.
