Have you ever regretted buying a figure?Have you ever regretted buying a figure?Ask MFC

Hi MFC! Its been literal YEARS since my last article! XD

https://i0.wp.com/i395.photobucket.com/albums/pp35/Arcliff/Bakemonogatari-KarenAraragiGif.gif

I've noticed lately how responsive members on this site are rather responsive to articles that ask opinion related questions regarding figures. You guys come up with rather interesting responses too!

Anyways, onto the topic of this article, lol. ^^'

It has been 4 years since I initially got into figure collecting. I didn't really know which types of figures I wanted exactly and I sort of impulse bought a few figures when I first started my collection. That's how I ended up with figures such as ITEM #219466 and ITEM #381685. I initially bought that Asuna prize figure since I saw that she was cheap and I do like elves and other fantasy creatures. Asuna was also my first figure too! As for the Edward Scissorhands figure, I got her because I liked her outfit and the the Edward Scissorhands movie. She was also in MUCH better quality than the Asuna figure, but she was more expensive. :v

I kept both of these gals for a few months, but then I regretted buying them because they were lowkey impulse buys. I ended up selling them on eBay and accepting my financial losses. I also realized overtime time that I was much more in love with male anime figures than female figures. (I also realized that I wasn't much of a prize figure person either.)

I genuinely thought that I would love female anime figures since I liked getting female Barbies, My Scene, and Monster High Dolls. and the male dolls of those lines never appealed to me. I guess male anime figures have something that those male dolls don't have lol?

Members of MFC: Do you also have/had a figure or figures that you regretted buying? If so, why did you regret buying them?

These reasons can range from stuff such as:

- severe manufacturing/design flaws that make a figure prone to severely leaning and/or breaking.
- the figure hardly looked liked the prototype in the promotion pics.
- it was an impulse buy
- you ended up not liking the character anymore after getting to know the source material that they're from
- etc.

SnowZelda1 tuntia sitten#96463238I really do like the stylized Gil they did, not that Takeuchi's is bad it's just that Myethos kicks ass haha. Who knows maybe I'll end up with that one instead depending on Alter's pictures - they do take forever ;-; I also do hope that Alter finishes their Gil too as I'm curious to see how they'll handle him. I am still gonna only by Myethos's Gil, but I like seeing how Alter handles it's prototypes since they are always pro's at what they do! :D And yeah, Takeuchi's art isn't bad, but lowkey, I do like how the other artists depict the Fate series characters a bit more. :v

I hope that Alter is still working on their Gil and will update us on the fate of that figure over the summer. :/

And yeah, Methos is a pretty great company! And they seem to learn how to make their figures better and better with each release! I really do love their Onymoji Ootengu Jr. that just came in the mail earlier this week! x3 I more or less bought him as a test figure of sorts to see what Mythos's quality is like as a collector I would like to buy from various companies and not just confine myself to Alter (who's still the best figure company that I know of!), GSC (who I saw as the 2nd best), and Toy's Works (who I used to see as the 3rd best, right after GSC). However, now that I've discovered Meythos, I think that they deserve the spot for 2nd best figure company in my eyes. If Meythos keeps topping itself, it just might knock Alter down to 2nd best!

In fact, I remember there being an article where one of the staff members of MFC interviewed the CEO of Mytheos I believe. It's a great read if you want to know how Meythos operates and thinks as a figure company! :D

okami343 päivää sitten#96331029Oof, your caster gil lost his fingers too?! ;w; Rip Gil, lol. But aye, some glue should be able to fix that and the arm that is constantly falling out.
And yes, having at least on Gil figure as in your collection is a must if you like the Fate series and/or collect figures from said series! ^^
Tbh, I had nearly forgotten that Alter was working on a GIl figure. I turned on the notification bell for pictures to make sure that I don't miss any updates on the prototype. I looked at the entry for that Gil figure to see that it's been a year already since the update. :/ It would be interesting to see how Alter handles shirtless Gil though. Meythos seems to have stylized Gil a bit from his original artwork, but I don't mind that one bit! Myethos's Gil was a blessing!
If I had to say, Alter's Gil will probably stay a bit more fateful to the artwork like they have done so with the other Fate figures that they made.

andresm6452 päivää sitten#96370383 What does "AFAIK" mean?

At any rate, I feel like every,if not most, Fate/Stay scale/figma/nendo suffer from inflated prices when the aftermarket hits them. I had to jump through hoops just to get ITEM #604483 during his aftermarket phase. I searched my ass off to get him for under $190 for the total price after the shipping price and tax we included. I recently met a member on MFC that helped me secure him NIB for $160 after a couple of months of searching and waiting his pricetag out!:D Down the road, I'm hoping to get ITEM #603828, ITEM #806094, and (maybe) ITEM #775830. I hope to hunt them down in accordance to which one I like the most to which one I like the least. Also, I too have not played FGO or watched Fate/Stay aside from abridged versions yet I like the Fate/Stay figures too. ^^' I hope to get around watching some of the Fate series someday as the fights and animation are quite good from what I hear! :D As for the game, I'll try to get around to playing some of it if I have the time.

I might order Eugeo if I can make my decision to ultimately get him fast enough. I recently ordered two scales back to back, and am thinking about ITEM #1019554 who's pre-order window is mostly closed atm since he's gonna be released next month. I might not be able to pre-order Eugeo even if I wanted him now that I think about that. ;v;

And wow....That is one expensive Jeanne figure! o.o I can only imagine what her aftermarket prices must be now. ^^'

Also, I do agree that SSF Emilia is quite beautiful! She's artistically statuesque! Lowkey I feel like that's the true and proper way to make a figure, but such highly detailed figures are expensive so I understand why not too many figures are made with as much detail as Emilia is. :/

okami342 päivää sitten#96332055Oof, I have noticed that more than a handful of my responders to my article have bought a bunch of prize figures since they were cheap, only to regret getting them. ^^'
Btw, I do agree that the prices for scale figures are intimidating! Especially so when your not familiar with cost range of scale figures and with what is considered to be "unreasonable" and "reasonable". :/
And yes, ITEM #287683 is a much better-looking Saber than ITEM #604495 because Alter's Saber has a better looking face and jaw, a better pose, and an arguably better outfit imo.
Also, that GSC Saber that you're saving up for is pretty nice too! I like her dynamic pose and bike! (I wish that there was a male scale figure out there that was like that. ;v;) Btw, I have noticed that you have been going after more and more expensive Alter Saber scales, are you gonna eventually go for one in the $300 or $400 range like you are already doing for Emilia? :v Speaking of Emilia, her Shibuya Scramble Figure price is steep af! I cannot deny that she's pretty well done, given her value. Personally, I feel like she worth about $120-ish less than what the retailers are asking for her though. :/
Lowkey, I too am interested in a Shibuya Scramble Figure as well. It's ITEM #1088994. I like how he and the rest and the other two boys are cheaper than they ladies are from this line, but I hate how they're more simplistic than female figures are in terms of pose and bases. :/ Still, I want Eugeo but I feel he's not worth the nearly $200 price tag that I'm almost sure will skyrocket in the aftermarket. :/ What to do, what to do.....I'm gonna continue to think him over before I hit the pre-order button.
As for the figures that you wish to sell, you could still try selling them on MFC and state that the buyer will be responsible for the sipping costs. You could offer to do bundle deals for the figures that you want sell to help cut down on shipping costs. You might get some bites on that. Also, don't worry about being unable to find buyers in your own country as MFC has members from all over the world on it! :D Maybe you can nab a buyer or two from a neighboring country?

AFAIK there are no Saber Alter scales on that price range on retail, although several have surpassed that on the aftermarket (I do own ITEM #464669 though, which was very expensive :P). I like Fate designs a lot even though I haven't watched all of it and don't play FGO, but still am drawn to the scales, and being fair I don't like Re:Zero that much either, but the SSF Emilia is one of the most beautiful figures I've ever seen.

If you are really interested in that SSF figure I would preorder if you can. Probably male figures won't skyrocket in price as much as bishoujo ones, but I'm sure they will still increase. And you're right that male figures get the short end of the stick.

Atavistic2 päivää sitten#96332191I'm actively working on selling them as we speak. I've already sold Miyuki and am trying with Kaguya and Chika but without success yet. I'll probably try to sell them on here fairly soon if my attempts elsewhere don't progress. It's great to heat that you already managed to sell off 1/3 of the nendos! :D I hope that you can find buyers for the remaining two as well! :D

kyoukos2 päivää sitten#96332164Thing is, I don't think she's resellable. Missing such an integral part, I just get the feeling someone would buy her without reading the description and then I'd have an unhappy buyer on my hands. So I'm just gonna trash her.Rip, but I that is highly understandable. You don't want potential buyers to do the same thing you did and buy the GK without reading the fine print underneath its listing. :/

okami342 päivää sitten#96332071Ah, so those are the differences between new and old figmas. The less accessories, higher asking price trend than figmas are following also seems to be a trend with nendos too to a degree. I have seen some Nendos, like ITEM #872607, almost rival the minimum asking price for a scale! It's hecka crazy!
It is a shame that your parents can't buy you Norman's nendo for your birthday since they're saving up for a new house. It's also a bummer that you can't even hope for a Christmas gif since you don't celebrate the holiday where you live. I wish you the best of luck on saving up enough money for Norman! Don't feel a bit disappointed on your upcoming birthday, I'm sure that your parents will make it up to you next year! :D
Also,...You cannot escape your simp nature as it is inevitable that most of us will inevitably simp for something or someone! >:)
Thank you so much •́ ‿ ,•̀ I hope I have enough money before it's going to be hard to find like his scale

okami342 päivää sitten#96332090That 3 nendo strike out from Toytec would make me feel utterly disappointed and want to avoid them like the plague too. Tbh, Toytec's quality country almost sounds as bad the quality control that bootleg companies have. They have no excuse for messing up those 3 nendos they way that they did since they're supposed to be a "trusted" figure company and because they pushed back the release dates for these figures. :/
As for doubting whether or not the Kaguya-sama main cast can look good in nendo form without looking "off", I think that they can. That is, if the nendos are being made by someone who knows what they're doing.
As for the fate of these three nendos, are you going to sell them, or keep them? I'm asking this because it sounds like you don't like your nendos very much despite knowing that you got the "lucky" with them.

I'm actively working on selling them as we speak. I've already sold Miyuki and am trying with Kaguya and Chika but without success yet. I'll probably try to sell them on here fairly soon if my attempts elsewhere don't progress.

okami342 päivää sitten#96332148Oof, it is sad to hear that Homura ruined garage kits for you. :( Are you going to resell her, or are you going to trash her?
Thing is, I don't think she's resellable. Missing such an integral part, I just get the feeling someone would buy her without reading the description and then I'd have an unhappy buyer on my hands. So I'm just gonna trash her.
