Hi guys, I'm still a fairly new doujinshi collector so would love to get some advice from any experienced collectors here and just generally nosey if anyone has brought some lovely doujinshi's recently too. :)

How much do you spend on a single doujinshi? And what's the most you ever spent on just one?

There is a doujinshi I waa thinking of getting, B5,55 pages comic, but for £12 around 2000 something yen I'm finding it hard to justify even if the art does look pretty >w< wish I could go to that convention and pick it up for the original selling price of £4.

I usually buy doujinshi new from toranoana and recently the pixiv store, because I like to think some of my money is actually going to the artist that way. I only buy used when the doujinshi has been sold out for awhile and there's no chance of a re-release.

If it makes deciding easier for you I'll share that I've spent about about $90 on an 80 something page manga doujinshi once. But I put money aside for that one specifically and I didn't buy it until about a year after I started hunting for it so it's a bit different from your situation. I think all the doujinshi I've bought besides outliers like that averages at about $8 each for me. (But it's really $1 to $20 depending on the book. Most end up under $9.)

Is the doujinshi you're looking at new or being sold in the 2nd hand market?

    Hello :)
Thanks for the recommendations! Definitely agree with you on supporting the actual artists, before doujinshi's I do and still buy indie comics, or fan anthology books/comics from DA or Tumblr.

I think I will be giving the doujinshi a pass for now,it's just a bad time for me with Christmas/bills/ a lot of stuff to pay off in January. I'm sure it will pop up again. Was the manga doujinshi you paid alot of money for really rare? A personal grail? That is alot of money but hey if the art/story is amazing Of something I love, yeah if I had money I might have done the same thing X)
Again thanks for the doujinshi prices, I have no idea how much they go for when they are new, and places like Otaku Republic seem overpriced!

The doujinshi I'm interested is a preorder from a doujinshi shop from Taobao. From what I can translate they buy the books new from the convention/artist in this case from Taiwan or korea then have it Shipped to China then they have to ship it to my proxy agent.

Nice, and I see you're an artist too! That's really cool. Even though I'm not in an art related career, drawing is a big part of my life so I always feel the need to support other artists. Always happy to see others who feel the same =^_^=!

In regard to the doujinshi I bought, part of me feels like price gouging has to play a role besides just the rarity of the doujinshi or the popularity of the artist and fandom, but as time goes on it shows up for sale online less and less and when it does it always seems to go for 10000+ yen, so I'm quite happy I got it when I did, haha. And yes, it was a grail item for me! I was only comfortable spending that amount because I knew I'd love it as I already owned some of the artist's other works. It's still one of my favorite books. I'm super cautious when it comes to budgeting my money and I don't buy many things, which also helped.

I'm sure the doujinshi you're looking at will turn up again, I agree! Unfortunately luxuries must always come last!... but thankfully a majority of doujinshi are not too hard to find later on x) I'm only familiar with buying Japanese doujinshi but I'm sure others are just as easy to get if you know how to look for them and it looks like you do. ^^

(& yes! I believe Otaku Republic is only worth it if you're just buying one thing, as I think in that case it would equal about the same as if you had used a proxy.)

For now, I mainly buy second-hand in larger quantities for maximum discount to catch up with my favorite circles. That list is larger that I want, hehe. The ones I have interest for are usually listed for 500 to 700 on Toranoana site. Paying 1/2 or 1/3 and not supporting the author feels a little bad.
